Abstract

| The motivation of this project is the efficient introduction and use in the Operating Room (OR) of (1) the rich anatomical information available in medical imaging studies of the patient and (2) the endoscopic video in surgical interventions. The project proposes a prototype for a navigation system in the challenging field of soft-tissue surgical procedures. The second motivation of this project is the development of solutions for an automatic analysis of surgical interventions, by means of endoscopic video analysis. Such tools will enhance surgical training and will help to take a further step in the direction of a quality-based surgical culture, including automatic objective evaluation methodologies. | |
