Nowadays the development of plasma facing materials (PFM) that can withstand the harsh conditions (radiation environment and thermal loads) taken place in fusion reactors is one of the major goals for material Scientifics. In this paper a review of the more successful approaches for improved material development are described. The long standing problem of light species retention in PFM, its consequences in material deterioration, as well as the state of the art of proposed solutions are reviewed. The limitations in material testing by using present facilities are stated. Finally similarities in the required operating conditions for PFM in laser and magnetic fusion are summarized. | |
