Abstract
How can be improved the cross-curricular competences of Technical University of Madrid (UPM) students? Students at UPM have been put to the vote several competencies definitions and classifications developed by the main worldwide organizations and institutions, and about the structure of UPM, compulsory degrees (Real Decreto 1393/2007, on 29th October in which official university degrees are established for carrying out the commitments for the European Higher Education Area). The results from the votes have been studied with the aim to select and analyse some of the cross-curricular competencies that students found more relevant in order to adapt their curricula to the actual labour market necessities. This study tests the possible difficulties this project will find in order to achieve the already mentioned cross-curricular competencies. In that sense, all kind of resources needed for a successful establishment are analyzed as well as the teachers abilities required. Teachers need to attend a cross-curricular competencies training courses that will provide them a certificate that enables them to teach that new teaching and learning techniques. Once the analysis is done, the most relevant cross-curricular competencies will be selected with the intention of establish them at Higher Technical School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (ETSI Navales) syllabus. The results of its establishment will show up the viability of this project for improving our students cross-curricular competency-based-studies once these competencies suit perfectly well in ours syllabus and once ours professors already have the abilities required to teach having in mind these new competencies.
