A microstrip-fed slot radiating element that overcomes the problem of narrow matching is described. The presented structure consists of a slot on the ground plane of a microstrip line and a stub superimposed to the slot and fed by the microstrip, as well. The feeding microstrip is terminated by a matched load; therefore, it is a radiating element in a transmission configuration, suitable for series-fed arrays. The matching technique is briefly described and some experimental and simulated results of different prototypes are presented, demonstrating the matching capability of the structure. Moreover, the radiation results show that the use of the stub results in an effective, inexpensive and simple technique to broadly match a microstrip-fed slot without altering its radiation pattern. | |
