Abstract
A new design algorithm for Radial Line Slot Antennas with circular polarization and an arbitrary shaped pattern is proposed in this paper. It is based on an optimization scheme that takes into account the antenna geometry and makes use of a fast method of moments (MoM) analysis tool. The slot lengths and layout that minimize the error between the target radiation pattern and the achieved one are calculated. This procedure is a useful tool to design pencil beam antennas with controlled side lobe level or isoflux satellite antennas for MEO or LEO applications. Two examples are presented to verify the validity of the approach.
