Descripción
TiO2 nanoparticles have attracted much attention because the great interest in their high reactivity that arises both from a scientific and technological point of view. Their unique physicochemical properties confer them with potential applications in a wide range of fields: photocatalysts, dye-sensitive solar cells, Li batteries, etc. In this context, the fabrication of nanosized anatase with hierarchical structures of controlled size and morphology is very interesting due to its potential application as photocatalyst. Hierarchical structures may attain low density, high crystallinity and large specific surface area, structural parameters which are required to improve photocatalytic performance. In particular, nanostructures assembled on a spherical morphology have shown a high stability and a monodisperse nature which satisfies the above mentioned characteristics. Many methods have been reported to obtain TiO2 hierarchical spheres through different synthesis strategies, which involve the use of templates and/or hydro or solvothermal conditions. However, these methods show substantial drawbacks for a scale-up production process and it is difficult to maintain a low density, large specific surface area and a high crystallinity, due to increase the crystallinity grade of the samples it is usually necessary furnace thermal treatment at high temperature which decrease the low density and high specific surface area. In this sense, the present work investigates the effect of microwave heating method on crystallization behaviour of TiO2 anatase, comparing it to conventional furnace heating. Fast microwave heating is utilized for solid phase crystallization of amorphous hierarchical anatase microspheres. Microwave heating reduces the annealing time for complete crystallization.
