Changes induced in liquid-crystal (LC) properties by nanoparticle doping have attracted interest in the last decade. The special case of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) dispersed in nematic LC under the control of an electric field is presented in this work. The orientation of LC and CNTs is studied, respectively, by optical ellipsometry and impedance spectroscopy. In addition, the behavior of single CNTs and surrounding LC is studied simultaneously by Raman Spectroscopy. Exploiting the reorientation of the liquid crystal by the electric field, even the CNTs alignment can be controlled acting like a switch | |
