Abstract
Luminous properties of surfaces have a decisive influence on the daylight design in retrofit but also in the final lighting performance of buildings. In addition, lighting conditions is one of the parameters considered to measure the comfort conditions due to their effect on the human health. Indeed, it is stated that a wrong illumination implies a high number of diseases such as visual fatigue and disorders in the central nervous system. In addition, energy efficiency strategies require to focus on the illumination rates. It is estimated that more than 12% of the electrical energy consumption in dwellings is due to the lighting. This percentage considerably increases in commercial and office buildings. In them, lighting can range between 35% and 50% of the total electrical energy consumption. Under these circumstances, daylight design is a reliable source to take into account. Lime and gypsum are the most common binders in renders and plasters with and without pigments. In this paper, the lighting performance of several mixes of gypsum and lime was analyzed with different techniques to characterize the optical performance of the surfaces
