We have determined the haplotypes of GS1 genes in a group of 30 bread and durum wheat varieties including landraces, old commercial varieties and varieties released from the end of the XXth century. The study has revealed a high allelic diversity for the genes located on the A and B wheat genomes, though all allelic variants were mapped to non-coding regions. No polymorphism has been detected for the GS1 gene on the D bread wheat genome. Field trials have been conducted to assess the response to N dose of this set of varieties.
