Silo structures are currently designed according to Eurocodes within the European Union. However, sometimes designers use national codes or a combination of both of them. The purpose of silo manufactures is to produce silos as economical as possible to be competitive in the industry. Furthermore, the challenge of structural engineers is to design those silos as safe as possible. This paper analyzes the influence of two critical aspects considered in silo design: the stored material and the silo geometry. Results showed the influence of those points in relation with the amount of steel required to build flat-bottomed steel circular silos. Through them, some conclusions and practical recommendations are established for silo designers. | |
