Digital interfacing plays a critical role when dealing with smart temperature sensors. Analog signals coming from temperature sensing must be converted into digital values. In this paper we present a small and low power interface that performs a time to digital conversion for a CMOS thermal sensor. The proposed interface allows converting the temperature-dependent exponential voltage drop sensed by a thermal sensor into a linear digital value. The implementation of this interface, based on the use of a logarithmic counter, is characterized by very low area and power, full CMOS compatibility and good linearity, what makes the interface specially suitable for modern Dynamic Temperature Management implementations. | |
