| This chapter describes an approach to product development that integrates innovation with the rest of the software/system engineering practices. It explains how innovation can be introduced without disturbing the underlying philosophy of a systematic engineering process. A scheme that integrates innovation with the rest of the engineering practices is presented. Agile is used as its basis. For that, Agile is described in terms of engineering practices framed into values and principles. Innovation has to be introduced when series of working products, referred to the same business objective, do not deliver the expected value. Why it is easier and more natural to introduce innovation within Agile engineering than within conventional approaches is justified. The scheme reflects the experience obtained thanks to the involvement of the authors in several industrial R&D projects | |
