Until the year 1997 more than 550 terrorist incidents worldwide on transport targets were reported. Terrorist attacks against car park terminals, particularly in Spain, are well known to the public. The existing design solutions for these assets do not ensure the protection of human life and property exposed. Recently, the new buildings and renovation works are made under the philosophy of performance-based design that determines the level of structural and non-structural security according to the social, environmental and economical importance of the project. The problem of parking car design against possible terrorist attacks is partially covered by a series of regulations and design guidelines that were not created for this issue. Therefore, a research project was initiated with the intention to create guidelines that integrate Risk Management methodology to the design process and give recommendations on terrorist risk treatment measures according to the car park importance. | |
