Abstract
The spread of metamaterial concepts has lead to the appearance of waveguides with a composite right/left-handed (CRLH) behavior, i.e., supporting both forward and backward waves, and a zero-phase-constant propagating mode as well. This paper deals with the design problem of a broadside slotted antenna on a CRLH waveguide. Rather than the classic standing-wave solution, a different approach has been made with a traveling-wave array, which proposes designing at the frequency where the phase constant is zero. A six-slot array has been designed, constructed and measured. Simulations and measurements are in good agreement, confirming the validity of the suggested methodology for the broadside design.
