This paper advocates the definition of a standardized formal language detailing airport surface movements, taking into account the specific details of airport environment. This proposed specification will be called Surface Movement Description (SMD). The paper describes its use as the representation backbone to share surface movements in an airport routing system and a collection of safety nets. Both routing and safety nets will be based on the definition of surface movement prediction procedures, intimately related with SMD. The potential exploitation of this model in a surface guidance system will also be described. In the paper an example implementation of a novel safety net making use of SMD is described and evaluated through simulation. | |
