Motor rehabilitation platform for patients at home, consisting of virtual environments that reproduce controlled activities of daily living (ADL).
Health, Engineering, Telemedicine, Neurological rehabilitation
Motor rehabilitation combines three techniques: 1. A tool for the objective motor assessment of patients with acquired brain injury (ABI), based on the use of knowledge modelling methods with which a precise movement analysis is carried out (Fugl-Meyer assessment of the upper extremity), which not only improves the sensitivity of the diagnoses, but also the time required to carry out the assessment, providing a great level of detail than that available using just clinical diagnoses carried out by specialist therapists. 2. An inertial medicine unit, which allows patients with ABI and severe damage to the upper extremity to interact with the virtual reality rehabilitation environment, based on activities from daily life, by means of inertial sensors. 3. Virtual environments used in the rehabilitation of the upper extremity: finger isolation and bimanual coordination activity.
This platform is mainly aimed at occupational therapists, neuropsychologists, speech therapists, neurologists, geriatricians and specialists in rehabilitation medicine.
