Objectives The general objective of the Degree in Sports Sciences is to train professionals capable of planning, organising, regulating, managing and assessing the variety of activities and demands in the community in relation to physical activity and sports.
General objectives
  • To learn about and understand the purpose of studies in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.
  • Acquire the fundamental scientific training applied to physical activity and sports of all kinds.
  • To learn about and understand the physiological and biomechanical factors which condition participation in physical activity and sports.
  • To learn about and understand the effects of physical exercise on the structure and function of the human body.
  • To learn about and understand the effects of physical exercise on psychological and social aspects of human beings.
  • To learn about and understand the bases, structures and functions of human motor skills and patterns.
  • To learn about and understand the structure and function of the different types of human mobility.
  • To learn about and understand the bases of sport.
  • To design, create and assess the teaching and learning processes associated with physical activity and sports in relation to specific and contextual characteristics of individuals.
  • To encourage and assess the forming of lasting, autonomous habits in doing physical activity and sports.
  • To plan, create and control training processes at the different levels involved.
  • To apply physiological, biomechanical, behavioural and social principles to the different areas of physical activity and sports.
  • To assess the physical condition of individuals and establish health-oriented physical exercise regimes.
  • To identify health risks involved in inappropriate physical activities.
  • To plan, create and assess physical and sports activities programmes.
  • To design programmes for managing sports organisations, entities and facilities.
  • To select and know how to use sports material and equipment appropriate for each type of activity.
  • To understand scientific literature in the field of physical activity and sports in English and other languages of importance in the world of science.
  • To know how to apply information and communications technologies (ICT) to the field of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.
  • To develop skills in leadership, interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
  • To develop the ability to adapt to new situations and problem solving and to know how to study independently.
  • To develop habits of excellence and quality in a professional context.
  • To learn about and act within the ethical principles necessary for appropriate professional activity.
