Presentation

Materials Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary field of knowledge that encompasses the study of the structure, properties, processing, and applications of all types of materials (metallic, ceramic, polymeric, and biological) and encompasses not only traditional structural materials, but also functional materials, nanomaterials and biomaterials, in addition to the devices manufactured with them.

Materials play a fundamental role in the economies of developed countries, as reflected in the current situation in areas such as smart materials and metamaterials, the nanotechnology necessary to develop them, or sensors and miniaturized devices for energy generation and storage. Materials engineers are in charge of developing the materials that will be required for new applications, finding the processes that make them economically viable, improving the performance of existing materials, considering the environmental impact and sustainability of their products, being able to optimize the selection of materials and create accurate databases that serve to predict their properties and their behavior in service.

The Master's Degree in Materials Engineering has as its fundamental objective the acquisition by the student of advanced training in Materials Engineering and Science. It seeks to train specialist engineers in structural and functional materials with highly technical and scientific preparation in an intrinsically multidisciplinary field and with a high capacity for adaptation, both in research, development and innovation and in professional activity.

After obtaining the Master's Degree, the graduates will be qualified to lead the innovation and development processes in advanced structural and functional materials that society currently demands in multiple applications with great social impact. They will have all the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to carry out research work in leading research centers in the science and engineering of structural or functional materials, as well as in laboratories or companies for the development, characterization, production and quality control of materials. They will also have the necessary qualifications to carry out advisory or managerial functions in industries related to materials science and technology.
