"El Mundo" Ranking consolidates UPM as the best technical university in Spain
Five of its undergraduate degrees are selected as the best option according to the ranking compiled by this newspaper. UPM confirms its position as the best technical university in Spain.

The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) consolidated its position as the best university for pursuing undergraduate studies in Engineering, Architecture, Sports Science, and Fashion Design according to the "Ranking of the 50 Most In-Demand Degrees" in its 2026 edition, published by the newspaper El Mundo, which lists the best Spanish universities for the most sought-after degrees.
The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid remains as the best option for studying Engineering and Architecture in Spain, with 11 of its degrees ranking among the most in-demand, five of them in first place. This year, the bachelor’s degree in data science is included as a new addition, and the bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, a qualification taught by the UPM, which had been leading this area, disappears from this ranking.
The centers of Madrid are the best for studying five degrees in the areas related to Architecture, Biotechnology, Building Construction, Industrial Technology Engineering, and Telecommunications Technology Engineering.
Degrees in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physical Activity Sciences are the second most in-demand. Computer engineering occupies third place in this ranking of university degrees, while the new bachelor’s degree in data science is in fourth place. In the overall ranking, Madrid's public universities lead the classification, with 18 degrees in first place.
The newspaper El Mundo analyzes 27 criteria to compile this ranking, including the opinions of more than 3,000 professors, among other indicators. These include the universities' positioning in international rankings. The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) ranked among the top 100 universities in the world in Engineering and Technology, according to the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
UPM offers 57 Bachelor's and Double Bachelor's degrees and 16 PARS (Programs of Academic Excellence in Engineering and Architecture), many of which are internationally recognized with accreditations from independent agencies (ABET, NAAB, EUR-ACE, EUROINF, and CABE).
