The work group consists of a group of 9 professors from the HTSE for Mines and Energy. The researchers' profiles cover areas such as geochemistry, geophysics and programming, fields in which they have more than 20 years experience. The diversity of the team's tools and methods enables them to approach land and underground water contamination problems from a multi-disciplinary point of view.

PROMEDIAM
Structure: Research Groups
PROMEDIAM's field of work addresses profiling the subsoil using various surveying methods and different aspects of contamination processes, focussing on the conditions produced on the ground, subsoil, and underground and surface water. The following are amongst the group's lines of research:
- Environmental risk assessment
- Development of geophysical and geochemical methods to profile contamination processes
- Geotechnical and geophysical surveys of the land
- Use of statistical methods to survey contamination.
- Mathematical modelling of environmental processes
- Biogeochemistry.
- Biogeochemistry
- Environmental risk assessment
- Modelling environmental processes
- null
Amongst others, the group has taken part in the following projects:
- Profiling a Site Contaminated by Dense Phases using Unconventional Geochemical methods. Funded by EMGRISA
- CARESOIL Programme . Funded by the Community of Madrid.
- Combination of Geochemical and Geophysical techniques for Spatial Profiling of dense Contaminants in soils and surface aquifers. Funded by the Ministry of the Economy and Competition.
The group has several intellectual property registrations. They refer to software developed to solve the problems relating to environmental contamination. Some examples are:
- 1D_RnDPM: Radon diffusion model to analyse and interpret the radon-deficit technique to profile sites contaminated by organic phases.
- Contaminant Mass Transfer Cellular Automaton: CMTCA. Cellular automaton to predict migratory routes of contaminants produced by surface run-off.
- Tool for Calculating GRLs according to Royal Decree 9/2005. Software for calculating Generic Reference Levels in accordance with current legislation on contaminated land in Spain.
- EnviroPRA. Functions library in open code facilitating probabilistic risk analysis.
- Geochemical profiling of contaminated sites.
- Geophysical profiling of contaminated sites.
- Environmental Risk Analysis.
- Contamination processes modelling.
- Geotechnical profiling of the land.
