Faster and safer 3D practices

3D Service Laboratories UPM is a platform that allows students of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid perform laboratory practices virtually, from anywhere with an internet connection through an avatar or virtual character. The system facilitates the development of these practices, accelerating virtually processes that in real life can take a long time, it allows safe practices (for example, in the case of nuclear technology) and optimizes the use of facilities.

Students create an avatar or virtual character that can function in laboratories where the practices are carried out and interact with other users in virtual meeting rooms, video rooms and recreational areas.

The Cabinet of Tele-Education (GATE-UPM) is responsible for the development of this platform, built on open source OpenSim software, managed in conjunction with professorate of the UPM.
