The Solar Energy Institute (SEI) is a research instituto in the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, focused in the Photovoltaic Solar Energy. The SEI consists of 70 persons, between researchers, PhD students, technics and management staff distributed between three sites in the UPM (Moncloa, Campus Sur and TecnoGetafe)
The SEI carries out teaching and research focused on Photovoltaic Solar Energy with the help of more than 500 m2 of labs, covering the entire Solar Energy value chain, from development of new materials for solar cells to the characterization of plants of tens of MW, through six consolidated research groups.
The SEI was founded in 1979, being the oldest research institute of the UPM and the world's oldest research center in Photovoltaic Solar Energy.
