ERC Research Grants

The European Research Council (ERC) promotes and supports frontier research in all areas of knowledge on the basis of scientific excellence

The European Research Council (ERC) promotes excellent frontier research across Europe. It supports talented researchers by funding groundbreaking and ambitious projects in all scientific domains, with scientific excellence as the sole evaluation criterion.

At UPM, we are strongly committed to foster excellence science and support scientific community. To this end, a set of support actions have been designed to assist ERC applicants and grantee throughout the entire process, from the initial project idea to the implementation phase.

International Projects Office (OPI) Support Services:

  • Go/no Go service
  • Proposal drafting workshop
  • Personalized coaching during the application
  • Help with budget definition and resources justification
  • Reviews of the proposal carried out by experienced consultants and our ERC advisor, including on-line meetings and face to face interviews
  • Organization of mock interviews and graphical review of interview material (if you are invited to the step 2)
  • Assistance to manage the project once granted

For more details, contact our ERC advisor (Laura Trulli).

ERC Research Grants at a Glance

ERC-StG designed for early‑career researchers who are starting, or have recently started, their own independent research team or programme. PI can be a researcher of any nationality with 2–7 years of experience since completion of PhD and a promising scientific track record.

ERC-CoG supports researchers who wish to consolidate their independence by strengthening or establishing a research team or programme. Researchers with 7–12 years of experience since completing their PhD, who have already demonstrated research independence, can apply.

ERC-AdG supports research leaders with a proven track record of significant scientific contribution, in terms of originality, impact, and influence in their scientific field.

New funding scheme supporting outstanding principal investigators who address major scientific challenges that cannot be addressed with a standard ERC grant. The funded project is expected to transform the field or open new lines of research. Scientist at all career stages can apply for an ERC Plus Grant.

ERC-SyG supports small groups of two to four Principal Investigators who jointly address ambitious research problems that cannot be tackled by a single Principal Investigator, but only through a collective approach. Scientist at all career stages can apply and PIs must present a competitive track record as appropriate to their career stage.
