Carlos Conde, new rector of the Technical University of Madrid
Professor of Applied Mathematics, Carlos Conde, has been elected rector of the Technical University.
Carlos Conde won 51.83% of the weighted vote, compared with 48.17% obtained by other candidate Guillermo Cisneros, according to provisional results. Both agreed to the second and final voting round since sufficient majority wasn´t reached to be proclaimed Rector in first round.
The elected candidate will replace Javier Uceda, who has remained at the head of the institution for two terms.
United in diversity
"United in diversity" has been Conde´s campaign slogan that reminds that one of the hallmarks of the UPM is the diversity of its centers. Increasing internationalization and student mobility, the promotion of the PDI and the establishment of a professional career for the PAS are some of the proposals of this Professor who will work in a university management model more efficient, in order to provide the best public service for higher education. The long-term goal is to place the UPM among the "Top 100 universities in the world".
About Carlos Conde
Conde is pdh and Mining Engineer from the UPM and Diplome d´Études Approfondies in Analyse Numérique from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI).
Professor at ETS Mining Engineering, he was also teaching at Universities Jaume I and Rey Juan Carlos, as well as directing the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computing Methods of the UPM. It focuses its research on the development of numerical methods and their application to different technological problems. In the field of university management, was vice-rector for research at the Universitat Jaume I, and since 2004 he is vice-rector for Academic affairs and Strategic Planning of the UPM.
