Andrés Monzón, new academic co-Charmain for the ERTRAC WG

Andrés Monzón is professor of the ETS Civil Engineering and director of the UPM Transport Research Centre (TRANSyT). He has been elected new academic co-Charmain for the ERTRAC WG on Urban Mobility.

The European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC) represents a diverse group of contributors to a successful European road transport system. There are more than 50 member organisations in ERTRAC representing all sectors of the road transport industry, non-governmental organisations, Member States, and the European Commission.

Andrés MonzónAndrés Monzón, Head of Department of the ETS Civil Engineering of the Technical University of Madrid and director of UPM Transport Research Centre (TRANSyT), has been elected as new member of ERTRAC. This organization was established to mobilise all stakeholders, develop a shared vision, and ensure timely, co-ordinated and efficient application of research resources to meet the continuing challenges of road transport and European competitiveness.

About Andrés Monzón

Prof. Andrés Monzón, Civil Engineer, Master in Transport and Urbanism, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, since 1978, and PhD in Transport (also UPM) since 1988. He is currently Director of TRANSyT (Transport Research Centre) and Professor of Transport at The Civil Engineering Department, UPM. He has published 43 books and chapters of books, 50 papers in scientific journals, 64 papers in international Conferences’ Proceedings and 48 in national Conferences and Symposiums, and supervised 15 doctoral theses. He has participated in 66 research works, 35 as director. Among them 17 were international projects, mainly EU Framework Programme R+D projects. His main areas of research are Sustainable Transportation Planning, Transport Demand Management and Urban Public Transportation.

TRANSyT

The Transport Research Centre (TRANSyT) is an organisation launched in 2004 by the Technical University of Madrid-UPM. Its aim is generate management capacity and participation in programs, projects and vanguard investigation within the transport area, with special interest in the European Research Area in the VI Frame Programme.

TRANSyT also promote the relationship with centres of similar characteristics, national, European and worldwide. Transfer technology to other countries, in particular to Eastern Europe, Northern Africa and Latin America, where collaborating tradition is of special importance, is also other area of TRANSyT activities. The group serves as a link between universities and different transport authorities: administrations, companies and students and citizens interested in the subject.
